Daily Social Media use

What sites and/or applications do you visit most often? Describe the sites and applications that you identify.
Do you have positive or negative reactions when using certain types of digital media?
Do you find that your needs are satisfied using one type of digital media over another?
Do you receive emails from companies? If so, what types of email catch your attention? What do you look for?

Social media in my world is really strange because I tend to lean to social media platforms that allow me to have a little more control over the content. It’s a strange point of view because Algorithm for the most part generally speaking function the same way by offering content that you or social media friends frequently look. The recommendation is totally fine, but it gets extremely overwhelming in other words sick to have the same ideology every single time and not allow yourself to hear other people’s opinion which would allow you to improve your point of views in life and many other aspects. A platform that is not social media that I used every single day 24×7 is Email because of school and my job as an account manager need to maintain a high level of communication with client and for the most part is done thru email. The most used social media on my end are YouTube, Spotify and WhatsApp. Normally I tend to lean towards hearing a lot of podcasts other people’s point of view on certain topics and music videos.

YouTube by far has been one of the most impactful social media platforms that have been created. YouTube went public in the year 2005 and currently largest video hosting platform in the world. YouTube is a platform where content creators share certain ideas that the platform believes are appropriate for all viewers. YouTube is always up to date because it allows everyone to post content which leads to you finding videos that you might find interesting. TV Show or famous person normally have a YouTube channel that allows them to share their content to the world.

Spotify has taken a huge right turn into the video creator and allowing podcasts to be watched on their platform. What I truly liked about Spotify in the past three years was that the platform allowed everyone to have a voice no matter what their opinion was in any sort of topic. Spotify started as a music platform, adapted the video content creation and lately has allow podcast creators to bring their content. Spotify took into account that by signing certain famous celebrities to have their podcast in their platform only they will limit where the content can be found, and user will need to use their social media platform to view the celebrity’s content, amazing marketing strategy.

WhatsApp is the app for the family as I like to call it. Coming from Dominican Republic WhatsApp allows my family to have constant communication with me by just using WIFI. WhatsApp is the most popular messenger there is in today’s world, this social media platform is incredible because it allows those that couldn’t afford to pay for services to communicate with their family for free. In my opinion when WhatsApp came out in 2009 as it started to become really popular phone companies decided to make text free since they realized that it wasn’t reasonable to have people pay for the amount of text message, they can send which by the way it’s still a thing in Latin America.

What do you notice about the use of digital media in marketing today? Explain.

This is a hard question for me because I have different point of views depending on where I stand at the given moment or what digital platform we are speaking about. the past decade we have seen an immense number of platforms market themselves in all social media platforms. There are so many “Influencers” that create products and brands based on their popularity, this has been amazing because we have seen so many lives changed and families. Digital media brough this lucrative way to reach many people without even having human encounter new revenue, and it truly disrupted the way marketing was done before. What I dislike about today marketing is that companies and platforms lean with the “Woke” society that follows every trend to bring higher revenue into their company even if they don’t agree with the idea. For example: marketing and ads in the United States its 75% percent controlled by pharmaceutics, “pharma and medical brands are on pace for over $6.8 billion in estimated TV ad spend, about $700 million more than last year’s figure.” it’s been hard to watch certain content on media for me because we cannot simply enjoy something without something trending being Shoved into your eyes.
